CONGRATULATIONS on your pregnancy!! Now what? Well you need to choose someone to guide you through your pregnancy, prepare you for your birth, be there when your baby is born and then help you in the first few weeks when you welcome your new family member into your home.
Why chose an Independent Midwife?
I am a fully qualified, award winning midwife, who has chosen to work outside of the National Health Service to provide one to one care to pregnant women and their families. I offer sensitive, family centred, evidence based midwifery care within the West Midlands area. All midwifery care is undertaken in the comfort of your own home at a time which is convenient to you. Our meetings are unhurried and relaxed, with time for all your questions to be answered in full. I can provide all your care, or work alongside your NHS care to answer questions and be available for extra reassurance. I am happy to accompany you to hospital for appointments with Consultant Obstetricians. Should you wish to pay for private scans I can recommend local clinics for reassurance scans.
Being pregnant and giving birth is one of the most important times of your life and choosing to employ a midwife to give care is an investment for the rest of your life. Payment plans are available to help spread the cost. I am careful with the number of women I book to ensure that you get gold standard midwifery care.
Where you give birth is your choice. Together we can discuss all the options, some women will want to give birth at home, whilst for others they will prefer a hospital birth. If you give birth at home I will come as soon as you feel you need me, help you birth your baby and then remain with you til baby has fed and you are happy for me to leave. If you choose a hospital birth I will go to the hospital with you and act as your birth advocate, supporting you and working with the hospital midwives. Insurance in the NHS means midwifery care in hospital can only be given by midwives employed by the Trust unless a special arrangement is put in place, so in this situation I will adopt a birth friend role.
As of 01.11.2020 I am able to offer care in labour in certain circumstances - mainly for people based in Birmingham. Please contact me to explore whether this is something I can help you with
I am regulated by the Nursing & Midwifery Council, and attend regular skills updates to make sure the care I give is up-to-date and I remain competent in all midwifery skills. I am a member of the Royal College of Nursing and Independent Midwives UK. I have a diploma in aromatherapy and completed my BSc (Honours) in Nursing Practice (Public Health) with an emphasis on midwifery, mental health and changing practice. I have now completed my Masters in Advancing Healthcare Practice. I am frequently consulted on midwifery matters at a local, national and international level.
